Pluralism Within Soto Shu | A Dharma Talk with Gyokei Yokoyama

 

Friday April 29th, 7:00pm – 8:15pm ET, In Person & Online

In celebration of the 100th year anniversary of Soto Zen in North America, the secretary of Soto Zen Buddhism North America, Gyokei Yokoyama, will be joining us for a dharma talk.

 

Gyokei will share his perspective on religious pluralism within Soto Zen tradition and the thread of Zen that runs through diverse expressions based upon his experience as:

  • an abbot of a rural community temple in Japan,
  • a minister of a Japanese-American Buddhist church and temple,
  • interpreter for the Soto Zen Buddhism North America office,
  • as well as sitting on the board of ASZB and SZBA.

It will be an opportunity to celebrate the diverse Soto Zen Buddhist communities in Japan and North America as we attempt to forge a close international and intercultural ties with the North American Zen centers in the coming century.
