Commit to Sit: A 90-Day Commitment to Practice

January 17th-April 16th, 2019

Usher in the New Year with the third annual Commit-To-Sit Practice Period which asks participants to sit every day for 90 days. This year's daily emails will be from Kosho Uchiyama Roshi’s classic, Opening the Hand of Thought.

A Study of the Avatamsaka Sutra

Wednesdays, January 23rd-May 15th, 2019 from 4:15pm-7:15pm

Through study and practice we will explore this compelling sutra and it's focus on the Buddha's awakening, the Four Noble Truths, interdependence, and the spiritual journey.

Bereavement: A Contemplative Approach

Thursdays, January 24th - February 28th, 2019 from 6:30pm-8:15pm

This six-week bereavement group is an opportunity to gain perspective and to begin the healing process during times of loss, transition, or crisis.

February Half-Day Retreat

Our half day retreat includes both sitting and walking meditation, a Dharma talk, and a private interview with a Guiding Teacher.

Tangaryo: Becoming a Formal Zen Student

Tangaryo is the initiation ceremony for becoming a formal Zen Student at the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care under the guidance of Sensei Robert Chodo Campbell or Sensei Koshin Paley Ellison.
