Winter Sesshin: Appreciate Your Life
With Sensei Robert Chodo Campbell, Sensei Koshin Paley Ellison and Sensei Dorothy Dai-En Friedman
January 11th-14th, 2018 at The Garrison Institute
Sesshin means “touching the heart-mind”. It is a cornerstone of Zen practice. Sesshin is an intensive practice period offering an opportunity to experience your essential nature.
Join NYZCCC’s Guiding Teachers Sensei Robert Chodo Campbell and Sensei Koshin Paley Ellison along with their teacher, Sensei Dorothy Dai-En Friedman to explore and deepen your practice.
Our 2018 Winter Sesshin will draw on the teachings of Taizan Maezumi Roshi and his collection of talks Appreciate Your Life – The Essence of Zen Practice. Maezumi is one of the first Zen masters to bring Zen to the west and is the founder of the White Plum Lineage of which NYZCCC is a member.
Each day of the Sesshin includes periods of zazen and walking meditation, dharma talk, an opportunity for a one-on-one meeting (dokusan) with a teacher, as well as periods of exercise and rest. We do Sesshin as a community drawing on the vital and mutual support of others practicing together in silence.
