A Pathway to Deep Presence: Explorations of Symbolic Listening with Leslye Noyes, PhD

One Sunday a month | January – June 2024 | 4:00pm to 6:00pm ET (online via Zoom)

with Dr Leslye Noyes, MDiv, PsyD

Class Dates: January 28th | February 25th | March 24th | April 28th | May 19th | June 9th

In this course, we will learn and experientially practice Jung’s theory and method of Symbolic Listening. To listen symbolically is to deeply ‘hear’ the person within and before you.

Throughout these six months, participants will gain a working knowledge of the following Jungian concepts:

  • The western mind and it’s organization of “opposites”
  • Denotative and connotative reading of texts
  • Personal and collective unconscious
  • Archetypal processes, with a focus on individuation
  • The transcendent function of the psyche
  • The bivalence of images
  • The teleology of symptoms and symbols

Structure of the class: Each class will be a bite size offering of one of Jung’s signature concepts, a teacher demonstration of working with that concept, and time for participants to practice this method with one another. Plenty of suggested readings will be offered to support your learning!

No prior experience necessary! This is for ‘beginner’ or ‘advanced’ students alike and is especially useful for clinicians in private practice or those in care-partnership situations.

12 CE credits offered after completion of the course for social workers, LMHC or LP.
