The mission of the New York Zen Center is to transform the culture of care throughout the continuum of life with compassion and wisdom – through the three pillars of education, Zen practice, and care. For more than a decade, we have perfected a model of care that acknowledges our own suffering as a way of easing the suffering of others.
Together, with our founding Abbot, Vice Abbot and Board, you’ll help bring our shared vision to life rooted in compassion, community, and care. This is a leadership role that blends strategic collaboration with hands-on execution. You’ll guide operations, strengthen systems, and maintain the culture of trust, belonging, and excellence that underpins the community.
A central administrative and community support role that helps ensure the smooth functioning of our offerings, Zendo, sangha, and the many points of connection through which people encounter the Zen Center.
A relational and strategic role focused on tending the sangha and alumni communities, deepening continuity of practice, and supporting connection across retreats, alumni offerings, and community life. Candidates should have an established Soto Zen practice, have completed Foundations in Contemplative Care and at least one unit of CPE, and have completed or be pursuing a Master’s in Spiritual Care or a related field.
