About the Foundations Program
Now more than ever, we are committed to training and supporting caregivers in a contemplative approach to care. The Foundations in Contemplative Care training has been transforming the lives of individuals from across the country and around the world by supporting the integration of spiritual practice and care since 2007.

Shaped by the vision of co-founders Chodo Robert Campbell Sensei and Koshin Paley Ellison Sensei, the Zen Center has proven itself a global leader in developing and teaching Contemplative Care as a means of caring for the most vulnerable among us.

Start your journey with a supportive learning community to create a resilient foundation for compassionate action and service in the midst of a world in crisis.
Program components include:
- Live weekend trainings each month (in-person or online)
- 50 hours of carepartnership
- Support through mentorship
- Readings, reflective writing, and video teachings
- Monthly peer meetings
- In-person integration retreat
The Foundations program is ideal for anyone wishing to integrate a contemplative approach to care in their personal and professional lives. No previous carepartnership is required. All are invited to apply. Areas of study include:
- Practicing greater intimacy in interpersonal relationships through active and symbolic listening, verbal and nonverbal communication, having courageous conversations, and non-judgmental moment-by-moment awareness
- Learning how contemplative practices support caring for others in the full spectrum of life, including those who are experiencing critical life transitions.
- Exploring healthy boundaries, ethics of conduct, and personal safety and well-being in care work
- Cultivating resilience through the mutual support of community, expressing our own agency, and meaning making
- Holding space and creating and facilitating rituals and memorials as a contemplative care partner
- Learning how to support others who do care work—including healthcare staff and family carepartners—in their resiliency.
Submit your application and application fee by May 15, 2024 and receive a $300 credit toward the Foundations training. Your application is not considered complete without the application fee payment.
